It was on a muggy rainy Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 12:20 pm, our sweet Sunny Girl became an angel and went to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge. Our precious girl Sunny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January of 2008. Her health remained good despite losing weight. She had a good appetite and still wanted to run and play, chase the cats and go for her routine visits with Grandma and Grandpa and the neighbors. She was doing well until the week of July 14. Her appetite changed and she became very lethargic. In the past, when I would be baking the dog treats, she would try to sneak them from the cooling trays. She didn’t even want to do that. She must have known the end was near because wanted to visit with her special neighbors longer than usual. The day before she left us, she spent the entire day with Grandma and Grandpa. The next morning she could not stand up and had no control of herself. We knew then what we had to do. As painful as it was, we were so glad to be with her until she breathed her last breath. Sunny became an angel on July 20th, 2008. We miss her sweet smiling face and wet kisses but are so grateful for all the joy and happiness she gave to us for 14 ½ years. When we felt the time was right, we began our search for a new puppy. We used Petfinder and found our new girl. We adopted KaCee Riegel-Kapalin on May 15th, 2009 from the Animal Rescue Center in Eastlake, Ohio, when she was 8 weeks old. She is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever / Golden Retriever mix and is now between 30-35 pounds. You may have seen her at many of our events since she became part of our family. Our latest addition is also a rescue named KoKo Riegel-Kapalin. We adopted her on October 25th, 2011, when she was 2 years old. KoKo is a Dachshund mix and she currently weighs around 15 pounds. Both girls really enjoy doing everything together and we are so happy to have them as part of our family. We will continue to post updates about KaCee & KoKo as their story unfolds.
